Quick Start Propels Men’s Basketball Past Medgar Evers 80-54 In Max Ziel Championship

Conor MonaghanAfter opening the game with a 16-0 run, the Oswego State men’s basketball team never looked back en route to winning the Max Ziel Tournament Championship game 80-54 against Medgar Evers on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. The Laker defense held the Cougar offense to 5-for-30 shooting in the first half as they established a 43-20 halftime lead. Oswego State improved to 2-1 on the season, while Medgar Evers dropped to 1-2 overall.

Laganiere’s Hat Trick Helps Men’s Ice Hockey Defeat Morrisville 8-1

Chris LaganiereJunior Chris Laganiere (Owego, N.Y.) registered three goals during a two-period offensive burst as the second-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team defeated Morrisville 8-1 on Saturday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena. The Mustangs held a 1-0 lead after the first period, but the Lakers scored the next eight goals to cruise to the victory. Oswego State improved to 8-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the SUNYAC, while Morrisville dropped to 3-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the league.

Late Goal Lifts Women's Hockey Past Buffalo State 3-2

Jillian BergeronSophomore Jillian Bergeron (Brockville, Ont.) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:46 remaining to give the Oswego State women's hockey team a 3-2 victory over Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon in Oswego. Laker goaltender Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) turned in a strong performance between the pipes as she compiled 35 saves on 37 shots. Oswego State improved to 3-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play, while the Bengals fell to 2-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in ECAC West competition.

Swimming and Diving Posts Wins Over Brockport

Shawn MerlinThe Oswego State swimming and diving programs put another win on the books as they defeated the College of Brockport in Oswego on Saturday afternoon. The Laker women defeated the Brockport by a score of 137-106, while the Laker men outscored their opponents by a score of 157-126 in the dual meet.

Men's Basketball Overcomes Turnovers To Defeat NJ City University 69-65

Ryan SheridanThe Oswego State men's basketball team dominated the glass to persevere through 34 turnovers as it defeated New Jersey City University 69-65 in the first round of the Max Ziel Tournament on Friday night in Oswego. The Lakers out-rebounded the Gothic Knights 44-19 and shot 50 percent from the field on 25-for-50 to came away with their first win of the season. Chad Burridge (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while teammate Hayden Ward (Fr., Montauk, N.Y.) corralled 17 rebounds.

Women's Basketball Withstands Second Half Surge In 65-54 Win Versus Morrisville

Kristen DiglioThe Oswego State women’s basketball team held off a late charge from visiting Morrisville State to record its first win of the season with a 65-54 victory to open the Max Ziel Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday. The difference in the game came from the Lakers’ supporting cast as their bench outscored the Mustangs 15-0. Oswego State improved 1-1 overall, while Morrisville fell to 0-2 overall.

Emi Williams Honored As ECAC West Women's Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week

Emi WilliamsOswego State women's hockey player Emi Williams (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska) has been named the ECAC West Women's Hockey Goalie of the Week for the week ending November 15, 2009. Williams made 71 saves to keep the Lakers in both games versus ninth-ranked Neumann Knights despite a 4-2 loss and a 3-2 overtime loss.

Men's Basketball Falls To Utica 82-71 In Season Opener

Tip-offThe Oswego State men's basketball team lost its season opener 82-71 to Utica at Max Ziel Gymnasium on Tuesday night. Second half shooting proved to be the difference in the contest as the Pioneers shot 55.2 percent from the field on 16-of-29 shooting, while the Lakers went 14-of-39 for 35.9 percent. Utica forward Patrick Goodman led all players with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Oswego State was led offensively by Chad Burridge's (So., Hannibal, N.Y.) 25 points.
